Category 4 - Freight and Engineers Stock (Wheeltapper)

Model Name:
(7mm FS) Ex SR Mobile Welding Unit

Description:
This is a Southern Railway built Mobile Welding Unit, made in 1944 from existing SR van stock. It is entirely scratch built using a laser cutter and a 3D printer. The design was taken from pictures in a book on SR wagons.

Model Name:
(7mm FS) Dogfish wagons

Description:
Etched brass kits purchased at O gauge meetings but not assembled until lockdown created time to make-up 'all unbuilt stuff on the shelves'. Helpful article on ballast wagons in trade magazine provided colour images which were satisfied by a raid on Warhammer shop for the appropriate coloured paints.

Model Name:
(7mm S7) BR Gunpowder Van, Diag 1/260

Description:
This modified Diagram 1/260 7mm 9’ wheelbase BR Gunpowder van is basically the Parkside kit (PS112) built as supplied but modified to add vacuum brake as some were early in 1960s. It was then repainted into bauxite reflecting the vacuum braked van. It has been weathered using suitable photographs.

Model Name:
(4mm EM) ex GWR Crocodile H (BR Weltrol)

Description:
This is from a Connoisseur kit, sadly no longer available in 4mm. It’s a simple model that captures well the character of these vehicles. The load of an anchor is based on a photo in ‘Freight Wagons and loads in service on the GWR and British Railways’. The baulks are balsa, coloured with Vallejo paints from the weathered wood range. The anchor is a product from Cornwall Model Boats and the chains and screw fittings are etched products from Ambis Engineering and are very fiddly!!

Model Name:
(4mm EM) ex GW Mink F 4mm

Description:
This is a very old Hobbies Kit made from pressed aluminium and whitemetal castings for the strapping. Getting everything glued up was a challenge! I have added some finer details e.g., vac cylinders from Frogmoor Confederacy and Rumney bogies. It is in service in early BR days and still carries very worn GW livery with some evidence of an even earlier livery. Inspiration taken from the early Russell book.

Model Name:
(7mm S7) Ex-GWR Fruit Van, Diag Y8

Description:
Representing a Fruit van as seen in the late 1950s this ex-GWR Fruit van (Y8) was built from the 7mm Parkside kit (PS29) basically as supplied. The van has been through the “wars” as the brighter painting highlights a number of areas that have been renewed such as the doors on one side and much of one end showing the results of rough shunting.

Model Name:
(4mm EM) Private Owner Tar Wagon

Description:
A Slaters kit built out of the box and weathered liberally. The transfers on either side are different to give a bit of variety and because the transfers were so old they broke up on application. These two are the best of the bunch!!
