Height of Layouts
Although Stoke Mandeville Stadium has been designed as a fully accessible venue, primarily for the use of disabled sports persons; the height of each layout varies and is dependent on the builder. Consequently some layouts may not be at an optimum viewing height for those in wheelchairs or mobility scooters, or for young children.
We have two solutions that might be helpful to some visitors: a Periscope, or Small Step-Up, for children to stand on, both of which are available (with a small refundable deposit) from the Railex Ticket Desk. These items are used at your own risk and must be supervised by the accompanying parent/adult at all times.
Directions to the Exhibition
If you are driving please use HP21 9PP for your satnav or what3words: causes.next.axed.
Stoke Mandeville Stadium is located just one and a half miles from Aylesbury town centre and situated directly behind Stoke Mandeville Hospital. It is not directly accessible from the A413 by car, but is accessible on foot with a pedestrian access under the railway.
We will provide a free a vintage bus service, Routemaster or similar, from Aylesbury Railway station to the stadium via Elm Park Road, marked “V” on the map above. It is a short walk on a footpath under the railway to the stadium. Please consider this an added experience to avoid any congestion in the car parks. A timetable will be published nearer the time, we match train times as far as possible.
Click here to view the timetable.
If arriving by car but wishing to use this service we suggest using Friarscroft car park in Aylesbury, see details below.
Arriving by Car
We have access to three free car parks for the show. You may ignore the notes about charges and ANPR cameras, they will be switched off for the entirety of the show. However, you must respect other car park rules governing disabled spaces and parking in marked bays where applicable.
Car Park “A” (on the map above) is the main Stadium Car Park, this can get busy, especially in the mornings while the “swim clubs” are in progress. Car Park “B” is additional space that we marshal and is available to us. In the event that both of these are full we have permission to use one hospital car park, Car Park “C”.
This is accessed via Car Park “B”, you will be provided with a slip of paper by our stewards that allows you to park here. When you leave Car Park “B” you are entering hospital grounds. Follow the yellow route to the car park. It is easiest to exit Car Park “C” via the hospital entrance, just follow the signs.
NOTE: This is the ONLY HOSPITAL CAR PARK YOU CAN USE for free. When leaving Car Park “B” you pass through a small car park, marked “X” on the map, YOU MUST NOT PARK HERE. It is a doctors' car park and you are liable to be fined or towed.
Stoke Mandeville Hospital car parks intended for visitors are chargeable but at the weekends generally tend to be quiet. Charges are: 30 mins to 2 hours: £3.50, 2 to 3 hours: £5.00, 3 to 4 hours: £6.50 and over 4 hours: £9.00. Full details can be found here.
If you wish to park in Aylesbury and take advantage of our free vintage bus , as noted above, we recommend the long stay Friarscroft (342 places) car park close to the station which is £3.20 for all day on Saturday and £1.70 for all day on Sunday. Details on all town centre car parks can be found here.
The roads around the stadium car parks are residential and although have no parking restrictions should you park there we would like to keep our neighbours happy so please abide with all road parking regulations, park safely and keep all access areas and driveways clear.
Arriving By Train
The area is served by a fast, frequent Chiltern Railways service to and from London Marylebone. If travelling from the south alight at Aylesbury (not Stoke Mandeville) and then proceed by free vintage bus in the station carpark, which will leave for the bus stop near Elm Farm Shops, marked “V” on the map above.
If travelling from the north: Birmingham Snow Hill or Banbury, change at Princes Risborough or catch an X20 bus from Haddenham station to Aylesbury Bus Station. These are normally around half-hourly but please check before travel. The timetable is attached Here
Taxis are available from the station forecourt to the stadium a single fare should be around £8-£12, although buses run from the adjacent bus station.
Travelling By Bus from Aylesbury Bus Station/Town Centre
There are several choices when taking a bus from Aylesbury to the stadium.
The obvious choice is the free vintage bus service we provide, see above. If you have arrived by bus then its a short walk to the railway station where the vintage bus leaves from (3 minutes, 200 yds).
Route 50/55/502 Red Rose bus from Aylesbury Bus Station
These buses call at Elm Park shops, see “V” on the map above (the same stop as the vintage bus). Note that this is primarily SATURDAY ONLY. There are a few buses on Sunday, the 502 service, but these are infrequent and the closest stop is on the A413, top right of the map above. Click here for the Route 50, here for the Route 55 and and here for the Route 502. If you open the pdf version on any page all three routes are covered in one timetable.
